School Life

Smiling female studentOur Mission is to provide for all an education of the highest quality, offered with the utmost care for the individual.

Our motto is
MHS: M
otivated, Happy and Successful learners.

We strive to be an outstanding centre of excellence where young people from 11-19 come to learn, develop their natural abilities and discover new skills in readiness for their future in further or higher education, employment and life.

Macclesfield High School is a self-governing state school with 70 teachers and 45 support staff who together serve a population of about 900 students. As a result of our own expansion needs and the reorganization of secondary education in the town, in 2007 we built a brand-new school, in order to improve our provision for your child.

We used to be based in West Macclesfield, but in 2007 we moved into our new accommodation on the beautiful Park Lane campus, where we are now part of the exciting new Macclesfield Learning Zone or MLZ.

Our new facilities provide a wide range of learning opportunities for students in the 21st century, to meet their academic, artistic, sporting, personal and social needs.

In 1998, we were designated by the Government as a specialist Technology College. All areas of the curriculum have benefited from the additional funds, but mathematics, science, technology and information and communication technology (ICT) have been the main focus. In 2001, and again in 2006, we were re-designated for a further five years. In 2005, we were selected as one of the 70 highest performing specialist schools in the country to apply for a second specialism.  From 2006, we have also been a specialist Arts College, with a focus on English and the visual arts.

Children and their learning remain at the heart of what we do. We want them to learn in a technologically-rich environment, but we want them to learn to be confident, assertive, outgoing, well-adjusted, generous-spirited people as well.

Macclesfield High School continues Henbury’s commitment to serve the community of Macclesfield, now from a new location.  Henbury has a proud history of educational achievement on its Whirley Road site since its opening in 1958.  In moving into new buildings, our aim is to take with us from Henbury High School into Macclesfield High School all the best of the "old" - all our strengths and our values, and those traditions which have made us the inclusive, welcoming, and well-respected comprehensive school we are.

Friends who have known us at Henbury will still recognise us. And if you are a newcomer to Macclesfield, we think you will be very pleased with what you find in ...
